This is just confusing.
It was just like every other day.
I woke up, had breakfast, walked to school and nearly killed my sister. you know, normal every day things. only this time something weird happened, I awoke to dark cave whoes howls and screams was what had woke me in the first place.
Not knowing where I was or what I was doing here, I went to the mouth of the cave to see if I could get my barings.
No such luck.
What I saw was the strangest thing I have ever seen.
The sky was a firey red while the sun was onyx, the trees seemed to drip blood, and the grassy fields looked white.
As I walked in no particular direction I realized, upon closer inspection, that the grass was really glass and quite sharp.
dead bodies littered the field of glass as if there was a battle no too long ago, dispite that most of the corpes were bone.
I took the shoes off one of these corpses and used them as my own though, it didn't stop the pain or the bleeding but it did stop my feet from getting cut up more than what they were.
wandering to the trees I found a path that I wish was there before. It would have saved me the pain.
the path led to the trees so I followed it and saw what appeared to be birds.
The wings looked and sparkled like gold, the eyes were silver, and thier tallons were bloodied.
one was different.
It was a deep blue with scarlet eyes and black tallons.
It led me to a little shack where a young girl lived.
"My, what ever are you doing here??" she asked, eyes wide and bewildered.
"I wanted to know what was in the trees. I just woke up in a cave and have know clue where I am."
"Well that explains why you came here of all places. come let us eat." she said as she went to prepair the food
"It will make it easier to think" and she disapeared in side the house.
inside was dark and cozy.
There was a small fire place to cook and keep warm and all the funiture looked quite comfortable, so I sat in a chair and waited for dinner.
I have to say that night was my favorite time of day in that place.
The sky was a deep velvety purple and the moon glowed a soft saphire blue across the land.
I slept softly that night on the floor.
The morning was . . .
strange.
That morning I had changed.
There was blue markings all over my newly paled skin that shone like ivory, my hair was as dark as the morning sun that looked almost red in good light, my eyes were that of the midnight sky. only shinier.
My nails, I found through my habit of biting, would not break and were as sharp as the grassy fields I walked through the day before.
However unlike my appearance, my wounds did not magicly heal and were actually more painful than when I was walking.
I looked at myself for quite some time. Well untill the sweet smell of food demanded my stomach's attention.
Saple was making what appeared to be pancakes but I knew better than to ask what it was made from. I knew It wouldn't be good, for me at least.
"Here. it will make you strong" Saple said in her calm almost hippi-ish voice, as she handed me a plate of pancakes.
Why they tasted like peanutbutter and pineapples is beyond me, but it wasn't that bad. I was also given a glass of light blue juice that bubbled like pop and tasted like rice wine, with out the alcohol that is.
"With how I have changed how can you tell that it is still me?" I asked before filling my mouth with the odd tasting pancakes.
"Child. I mearly watched you change and have found that you are from the world beyond."Saple said calmly sounding much older that what she appeared
"It is a great honnor to have you in my home"
"The world beyond?"
Confusion.
"yes, it is a world so unlike our own. there are strange contraptions that seem to move of thier own accord, the land is green, the moon greats those that kiss it, the waters roar, and the people are free from our suffering." Saple explained
"It is said that we all came from the land beyond but for one reason or another ended up here. These are the stories that the old tell us and we long for bright sunny days, but we have grown bitter over the years. Now the younger generation will not hear the stories or pass them on. I am now the last witch."
she sounded mournful near the end but showed no signs of tears. Still I had to know,
"What do you mean by witch?"
"It is what we call those that tell of the land beyond" she said luaghing.
Remembering the screaming that I first woke up to I desided to go back to the cave, but before I left Saple gave me a sword of bright pink.
I tied it to my side.
The walk seemed long and the wind kept blowing my hair every which way it pleased.
I grew annoyed and once again pillaged from the corpses around me. I took a blood staind sash and used it to tie my hair back.
from then on the wind ceased to bother me.
I continued walking with only the crunching of glass under foot as my company,
and what poor company it was.
All I got out of it was a head ach.
Saple, not wanting to find anyone that would that would hurt her for believing in the ways of old, stayed where I had first found her.
Alone in her home.
At the cave entrance I heard the distinct sound of screaming that had first woke me. Curious I ventured deeper inside.
The cave was dark and soon there was no room for light to shine, and I was blind. Well just untill I remembered a light that I kept in my back pocket . . . It really didn't help, basiclly I was still blind the only diffrence was that I could kind of see the floor beneath my feet, so I was less likely to trip.
The path I took was long and with no way of knowing where I was going, I was also lost to the point where I couldn't find my back even if I had wanted to.
Again I was blinded, but not from the surrounding darkness.
This time I was blinded from a sudden light that threatened to burn my retinas.
Oh what a wonderful world this was where one is permanently blinded from the very thing that they wish for.
The source of the light, once my eyes had adjusted, was from a young boy no older that 17.
Just like me.
He skin was kind of like a pale blue, his hair was cut short and was the color of a pumkin, while his eyes were a luminous green. Almost like a cat's.
He introduced himself as Gambu and took me to a part of the cave where it looked more like a cathedral, only without the stained glass . . . and It looked nothing like a church.
It was in this community that I learned that they were an off shoot of humans.
According to thier elders the Jeeny race once ruled this land and long ago the land could have been compared to the garden of eden in religion.
The days were long but they were always happy untill that is,
when an old old man took the powers of the land.
Deforming it.
With the land changed so drasticly the Jeenians didn't know how to forge for food and soon started a war with that same really old man, but that only served to lessen thier numbers.
So they soon became a dieing race, and in order to preserve themselves they opened the portal to my world. Almost everybody was attracted to it, and so they were able to prolong the innevitalbility of thier extinction.
I grew to like Gambu.
He was always curious and getting into things that he really shouldn't.
He didn't care, he was just exploring.
Later Gamu and I took each other for mates and and for the few months that I was there we would go visit Saple. She liked Gambu as well, but not in the same way as I. It was on one of the nights that we stayed at Saple's and I slept in Gambu's arms, but when I woke up . . . I was in my room.
No one ever believed my story and for a time, neither did I
But that didn't last long.
I still bore the wounds from my walk in the glass, the sash I used to tie my hair back turned out to be 50 years old, and I still wore the boots.
The sword was still at my side, those were the small hints.
What really tipped me off was the fact that I was Pregnant, and It wasn't entirelly human.
Now it is implied that my body went back to normal, but that isn't entirely so.
You see my hair, though lighter than it was before, was still quite dark and my skin was still a bit lighter. Though it had grown back a bit of it's tan and it now looks like I'm constantly wearing blue eyeshadow . . . and yeah, my nails are still indestructable.
These are the things that I didn't notice for the first few days after my returning.
I think I want to go back to where I felt most alive.
